Environmentally Safe Practices
Over the years, the Harper Companies have become known for environmental work, completing numerous clean-up projects. In addition to working on these projects, we follow strict protocols for the recycling or reuse of as much of the concrete, asphalt, oils, metal, paper, cardboard, plastic, and glass products as possible.
Keeping our work environment—and our world environment—safe and healthy is not just a goal of ours, it’s a doctrine we live by. We strictly comply with all environmental regulations and are committed to responsible business practices that protect the environment, our crews, and the communities in which we work.
We employ environmentally safe practices on all projects. From using secondary containers to prevent spills to developing storm water pollution prevention plans, complying with air quality regulations, recycling and reusing materials, and taking steps to lower our emissions, we aim to reduce the amount of waste we generate and the impact we have on the environment.
Reuse and Recycling of Materials
Our continual efforts to lessen our impact on the environment include the recycling and reuse of concrete, asphalt, oil, metal, paper, cardboard, plastic, and glass. In addition, we welcome new ideas for the further reduction of waste and continue to update our policies and procedures as new safety and sustainability practices are developed.
Handling Hazardous Materials
We understand the need to protect the environment from the hazardous materials that we use or encounter in our work. To ensure the cleanest and safest environment possible, we strictly adhere to the “Best Management Practices” for the handling and storage of on-site Hazardous Materials.
Reducing Emissions
Our large fleet of construction vehicles and all of our other machinery are properly serviced and maintained to eliminate unnecessary pollutants. In addition, we operate our own sand and gravel pits which allows us to source our aggregate locally—minimizing emissions from long-distance hauling.
Educating Our Crews
Policies and procedures only work if people adhere to them. We not only encourage sustainability, we educate our crews about best practices and company policies through meetings, trainings, and on-site spot checks.
